1 Day White Water Rafting on the Tana River

The 1 Day White Water Rafting trip takes you to Sagana on the Tana River, one of East Africa’s best rafting spots. You tackle exciting Grade 4 rapids between calmer stretches, with gorge scenery and good birdlife along the way.

No experience is needed. Guides give a full safety briefing and paddle training, and safety kayakers stay with the rafts throughout. Gentler options are available for families and beginners. Detailed itinerary

Your driver collects you from your Nairobi hotel early for the drive north to Sagana on the Tana River, roughly two hours, arriving at the rafting camp with time to change and get ready.

The guides run a full safety briefing and paddle drill on the bank before you launch. The standard run covers around fifteen kilometres with rapids up to grade four, broken by calmer pools where you can swim and float. Safety kayakers stay with the group throughout and each boat has its own guide. The gorge scenery is excellent and the birdlife along the banks is heavy.

Lunch is served at the camp once you are off the water, with time to change and dry out before the drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the early evening.

Bring a change of clothes, a towel, secure footwear that can get wet, and sunscreen.
Water levels vary by season and determine which section of river is run on the day.
Gentler family float trips on lower grade water can be arranged. Please tell us the ages in your group.
