The 1 Day Kiambethu Tea Farm Tour takes you to the cool highlands of Limuru, just above Nairobi. This family-run farm has been growing tea since 1910 and gives an authentic look at Kenya’s tea heritage.

You learn how tea is grown, picked and processed, walk through the tea fields and indigenous forest with a local guide, and finish with a home-cooked lunch overlooking the countryside. Detailed itinerary

Your driver-guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel and drives up into the highlands to Limuru, about an hour, climbing through tea country to reach Kiambethu at roughly 2,200 metres.

You are met with tea or coffee and given a talk covering the history of tea growing in Kenya, how the leaf is picked, and how it is processed and graded, along with the story of the family who have farmed here since 1910. A guided walk follows, through the tea fields and into a remnant of indigenous forest where a local guide explains the traditional uses of the trees and plants along the path.

A home-cooked lunch is served on the lawn looking out over the farm, with time afterwards to sit in the gardens before the drive back down to Nairobi in the afternoon.
