1 Day Mount Longonot Hiking Day Trip

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel early and heads out along the Rift Valley escarpment, stopping at the viewpoint for the long view down over the valley, then on to the Mount Longonot National Park gate near Naivasha to register.

The ascent starts at the gate at around 2,000 metres and climbs steeply on loose volcanic soil to the rim at roughly 2,600 metres, which takes most people between one and two hours. From the rim the caldera opens below you, its floor under forest, with steam vents visible on the inner walls.

If you want to continue, the full circuit of the rim runs another three to four hours over a series of steep peaks and saddles, taking in the true summit and views across Lake Naivasha, Hell’s Gate and the Aberdare range. You then come back down the same trail to the gate and are driven to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
