Detailed itinerary

Depart Nairobi early morning using a shared public shuttle service to Nanyuki town (approx. 3–4 hours). After a short break, transfer to Sirimon Gate (2,600m) for park entry formalities. Begin your trek through montane forest and bamboo zones, spotting wildlife such as colobus monkeys and forest antelopes. The trail gradually ascends into moorland, with giant heather and tussock grass. Trekking distance ~9 km (3–4 hours). Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp (3,300m). Expectation: First acclimatization night, cool temperatures, and clear views of Mount Kenya’s peaks at sunset.

After breakfast, trek across moorland and alpine zones. Cross valleys and ridges including Mackinder’s Valley, with spectacular views of giant lobelias and senecios. The trail is longer and steeper, preparing you for higher altitude. Trekking distance ~14 km (6–8 hours). Arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m), nestled below the towering peaks of Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana. Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s Camp. Expectation: Stunning alpine scenery, higher altitude acclimatization, and preparation for the summit push.

Wake up around 2:30 am for the summit attempt. Trek under the stars up steep scree and rocky terrain to Point Lenana (4,985m), the third-highest peak of Mount Kenya. Reach the summit at sunrise for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro (on clear days), the Aberdares, and the Rift Valley. Descend via the eastern side towards Chogoria route, passing through spectacular landscapes including Gorges Valley, Lake Ellis, and Lake Michaelson. Dinner and overnight at a designated camp along the Chogoria route. Expectation: Challenging but rewarding day; unforgettable sunrise at the summit and dramatic scenery on descent.

After breakfast, continue descending through montane forest to Chogoria Gate (approx. 2,950m). Meet your shared public shuttle transport back to Nairobi (approx. 4–5 hours). Arrive in the evening for drop-off at your hotel or residence. Expectation: Easier descent, lush forest scenery, and a chance to reflect on your climb.
